Health and Care’s Top 70 Stars

Sarah Thorne

Sarah is the most hard working, dedicated person I have ever had the pleasure of working with. Her commitment to improving services and patient experience is outstanding and she is constantly looking for ways to enhance patient care.

While for many, a job is something to be concerned with only during working hours, for Sarah it is something she lives and breathes. Her devotion to the Emergency Department is commendable and absolute – the department is never far from her thoughts and her emails are checked with impressive regularity even when not in work!

Sarah’s passion for emergency care is whole hearted and she always strives to bring out the best in her colleagues, developing their knowledge and skills while promoting the fundamentals of care and hospital board values at all times.

Her standards are high and she always gives the very best of herself to her colleagues and her patients, and works hard to ensure the care given to patients within the emergency department is of the highest level - care all of us would expect and hope to receive ourselves.

Sarah is extremely supportive and always goes the extra mile for her colleagues and friends. Her door is always open and people invariably turn to her if they have any stresses, worries or issues, both professionally and personally. She is always someone you can depend on for advice and support. No matter what the issue or time of day, Sarah will always do her best to help and resolve any problems.

Sarah’s work ethic is faultless, she works tirelessly and is constantly stepping in the help out the department with staffing issues at short notice so that the patients and her colleagues don’t suffer.

Sarah’s dedication and commitment to the hospital, Emergency Department and patients puts many of us to shame. She could be nominated for so many of the Chairman’s Staff Awards but I have chosen to nominate her for the GEM award as in summary that is truly what she does from day to day, every day. She is constantly going the extra mile for others and the department in order to improve services, enhance patient care and experience and ensure her colleagues are happy and able to do their jobs well. I cannot think of a more deserving person to receive this award
