Health and Care’s Top 70 Stars

Marion Bartlett

Marion is the heart of ward C. a dedicated woman who shows respect, care, dignity, compassion and empathy for everyone and acts as a mother hen. Nothing is too much – always cheerful, kind and helpful to patients, staff, relatives, visitors and anyone who crosses her path. She often will sit and talk to the confused patient, offering support to both patient and relative –not to mention staff. Especially in times of business –nothing is too much –from running an errand to assisting in giving out food or helping to make a bed. She has even taken a patient to another ward to see his wife. Providing a comforting arm to a discharged patient who returned confused. Assisting doctors to contact family to ensure patient safety.

Sharing knowledge through mentoring of new apprentice staff, assisting them to achieve learning outcomes and apply for jobs. Educating staff in new systems.   Never complaining but taking initiative in things that she can assist with or improve to make things more efficient and effective. Example being the organisation of paperwork for admissions, clearly labelling drawers etc.  Communicating with Cath lab staff  to ensure timely collection and return of patients having procedures. Introducing a data sheet to aid the effective capture of patient activity to reduce coding errors.

As ward clerk, she often is the front line receiver of frustrations, but takes it in her stride with her calming nature and often diffuses the situation. No matter else goes on around her both inside and outside work she always strives to improve. She will often start early to ensure she has time say hello and make sure everything is in order. Always shows compassion for others and genuinely cares for everyone around her. She provides an endless supply of sweets for staff – to keep them going”. Has become a focal point for cardiac teams and is missed by doctors, nurses, domestics, porters, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, ward host and anyone who attends the ward.

Marion is dedicated to her role and truly goes the extra mile in everything she does.
