Health and Care’s Top 70 Stars

Dr Kath Wooding

Dr Kath Wooding has worked in ABMU in the capacity of Consultant Paediatrician and Clinical Lead for Paediatrics. She has worked tirelessly to bring oncology services for children locally to Morriston Hospital.

Prior to her vision and work, children diagnosed with oncology problems from Swansea had to travel to the tertiary centre in Cardiff and this often entailed prolonged periods of admission. This led to difficulties for families with commute and being away from home. Working with the tertiary centre and creating a network through teaching and her personal dedication, Dr Wooding has brought these services locally to Morriston Hospital. This has helped a lot of children and their families access specialist care locally.

This service has now been established and is currently running smoothly achieving the goal it was originally designed for.

Dr Wooding is often contacted about such patients when she is not on call and on some instances on annual leave. She has always given advice that has helped us provide better care  for children admitted to the ward. This demonstrates her dedication to the cause and offering such support has helped families and children receive better care locally. This is in line with ABMU values of caring for each other and working together- involving families, engaging clinicians locally and working closely with the tertiary centre. Dr Wooding is an absolute credit to our department and many families and children in Swansea have benefited from her excellent clinical abilities.
